Rings That Rock

Rings That Rock takes you on a fascinating journey through more than seven centuries of ring culture, centred on power, love and splendour. From royal power to personal love stories, from bold statements to refined elegance. Rings That Rock explores the meaning and symbolism of diamond rings from the 15th century to the present day.

Diamonds have never been merely precious stones. They have served as symbols of authority, marked political and family alliances, and sealed intimate bonds. Rings That Rock brings together an exceptional selection of diamond rings and shows how these seemingly small objects tell grand stories about changing ideas regarding status, identity, emotion, gender and craftsmanship.

The exhibition combines historical masterpieces with contemporary designs, demonstrating how the diamond ring continually reinvents itself whilst remaining a powerful symbol of power and love. For centuries, rings have reflected both their wearers and the times in which they live.

The exhibition features royal jewellery, striking statement pieces and rings for men. They illustrate how rings were worn and valued in diverse social contexts and periods. Also on display are, amongst other things, the first engagement ring and rare designs featuring pink, heart-shaped diamonds: pieces of jewellery in which meaning and aesthetics come together.
