Masterclass with Karl Fritsch

Day 1 – Introduction
Kennismaking en introductie tot Karl Fritsch’ praktijk en visie op gieten. Start modelleren in was, met aandacht voor vorm, structuur en technische mogelijkheden.

Day 2 – Casting work
Further development and completion of the casting models. Assembly of the casting tree and preparation for investment. Start of the investment process.

Day 3 – Casting
Discussion of the casting process (centrifugal and/or vacuum). Demonstration and group casting session. Evaluation of the casting process and initial finishing.

Day 4 – Preparation for the second casting session
Developing new or modified wax models. Reviewing the results of the first casting. Preparing and embedding the models again.

Day 5 – Second casting session & discussion
Second casting session. Finishing touches and a joint discussion of the results. Reflection on the process, technique and applications within one’s own practice.

The masterclass is aimed at designers and makers who wish to deepen their technical knowledge and apply the casting process more effectively within their own practice. Please note: this masterclass will be conducted exclusively in English.

There is space for a maximum of 8 participants.

Selection is based on motivation. Candidates are asked to briefly explain why they wish to participate and how the masterclass can enhance their practice.

Karl Fritsch (°1963, Germany) is a leading international contemporary jewellery designer. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and later settled in New Zealand. Fritsch is known for his radical and intuitive approach to jewellery, combining traditional techniques with experimental processes and a distinctive aesthetic.

His work is exhibited worldwide and forms part of major public and private collections. Central to his practice is a profound engagement with the creative process and a constant redefinition of craftsmanship within contemporary jewellery art.
